Let US support India in defeating anti-India forces
5/30/2016 10:33:13 PM
Washington has rightly snubbed Pakistan over its way of opposing India's plan to become a member of the Nuclear suppliers Group (NSG) on the plea that it is not the question of boosting India's weapon race. The US has plainly told Pakistan that it is the right of any country to be a member of the NSG.Since the upcoming meeting of the NSG does not have on its agenda of including new members it is,therefore, premature for Islamabad to voice its opposition to India bid to become a member of the NSG.In the past Pakistan has also opposed India's bid to be a permanent member of the UN Security Council and in this case Pakistan has received ample support from China. It has become now clear that if China opposes India's any plan Pakistan will support China and the vice versa because the interest, political and military, of the two countries is interlinked. While Pakistan has been receiving ample quantity of military and economic assistance from China,Pakistan has,in fact, bartered its land in strategic areas of its north, including the Gilgit,Baltistan and other hilly areas in Pakistan occupied Kashmir to China for setting up its military bases that could help Beijing to meet any challenge from the US and Russia. This way the China-Pakistan relation is a two-way traffic as it has been Beijing which has been responsible for upgrading the missile technology in Pakistan and strengthening its nuclear weapon system.
In an apparent snub to Pakistan over its opposition to India's bid to become a member of the elite Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), the United States has said it is not about an arms race, but about peaceful use of nuclear energy."This is not about an arms race and it's not about nuclear weapons. This is about the peaceful civil use of nuclear energy, and so we would certainly hope that Pakistan understands that," State Department Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner has said.. He was responding to questions about India's membership application to the NSG and opposition to it by Pakistan on the grounds that this would give pace to nuclear arms race in the region. However, the U.S. has fingers crossed, ahead of the crucial meeting of the 48-nation NSG because it is not sure whether majority of the nations support India's bid for NSG membership"Look, all I can say is that during his visit to India in 2015, President [Barack] Obama did affirm the U.S. view that India meets missile technology control regime requirements and is ready for membership. But it's a consensus body, so we'll wait and see how the vote goes," . Toner has said.
Deliberations about the prospects of new members joining the NSG are an internal matter among the current members. And as such Washington cannot claim to predict anything on the matter though the US has made it clear that it was determined to support India's bid for membership of the NSG.India is hopeful after assured support from Washington but the US administration and the US President have to do some PR work among those countries which could side with China and Pakistan.New Delhi in general and Narendra Modi in particular have a role to play in India's interests and initiate a campaign against Pakistan. India does not need to expose Pakistan for having converted its country into a haven for terrorists and the way its soil is being used for exporting terror not only to India but to other countries. Hope China realizes the need for mending fences with India which could prove highly beneficial for Beijing in the wake of Pakistan's support to terrorists operating in the Chinese province of Xinxiang.Hope the recent visit of the Indian President, Pranab Mukherjee, to Beijing promotes cordial ties between India and China. However, chances for this are bleak because of the requirements, political and military, Pakistan can offer to China by way of allocating strategic chunks of land to China for setting up its military bases. Not only this China has been helping Pakistan to build roads in strategic areas which enables China to penetrate into Pakistan and occupied Kashmir. This way the bond between China and Pakistan seems to be unbreakable. If Washington is sincere on India's entry into the NSG it should join hands with New Delhi for defeating enemies of India.
