Govt HS Lakhanpur faces negligence

Kathua, May 30: Union and State governments launched number of programs to enhance enrollment in government schools in fact the existence of government schools especially Primary/middle is under threat but one of the oldest school, Government High School HS Lakhanpur, despite having good enrollment and contributes in securing existence of Government schools, badly facing negligence of the department.
The excess admission in the school for class 9 & 10 resulting 3 sections in each class but students have to study under damaged building which has been declared unsafe. The school runs without proper infrastructure as Windows are without pane, class rooms with damaged roof, damaged water tank/pipes, worse sanitary system etc. There are just 5 rooms in the school and students' enrollment requires 10 more rooms in the school.
Sunayana , 10 th standard student, said they study under damaged roof while risking of their lives, in worst sanitary system, shortage of infrastructure but they can't get admission in Kathua as their parents would not send them in the city.
She said leaked roof make their lives difficult during rainy season whereas difficult for them to study in open during this scorching heat. She alleged on education department to ignore their sufferings. Sushma, Anjali, Sapna had similar views about the worse infrastructure of the school.
Angrez Singh Headmaster of the school, he informed that the school building has not been repaired since construction in 1974. He said the strength of the school enhances each year but no facilities have been provided by the department from then resulting conducting of classes in open during this scorching heat. The headmaster said the school building must be dismantled and rebuilt with more accommodations/ facilities.
When contacted to CEO Kathua Balbir Singh, he accepted the sufferings of pupils and ensured to construct the building as the demand is under the proposal. He appreciated the enrollment and ensured to reform infrastructure of the school.
