Jammu, May 30: A murder accused was today awarded life imprisonment by the court of additional sessions judge, Jammu. The aditional sessions judge Jammu Rajesh Sekri today awarded life-impriosnment and fine Rs one Lakh to Vinod Kumar alias Beenu S/O Behari Lal R/O Bhadwal Tehsil & District Samba who was facing trial in murder case. Vinod Kumar alias Beenu, son of Behari Lal, was alleged to have murdered his paternal uncle Sansar Chand, son of Inder Dass, on November 20, 2009 at their ancestral house at Bhadwal, Samba. A complaint in this regard was lodged with police by Sansar's son and Vinod's cousin Parsidh Ram. He stated that his father, who occasionally slept at the ancestral house, used to go there regularly to offer prayers at the family dev sthan situated there. Sansar had constructed a new house, but Vinod had been staying separately in his old house. He wanted his uncle to relinquish all his share in the house in his favour, but the latter was not ready. Police investigation that on November 20, 2009, when Sansar as usual went to the old house to offer prayers at the dev sthan, Vinod assaulted him. He put a piece of cloth in his mouth and gagged him to death. However, before he died, his screams attracted the attention of some locals who reached the spot. He attacked and injured them too. A scissor used in the attack was also recovered by police from the spot. Additional sessions judge Rajesh Sekri, after hearing the two sides, there was no legal justification for awarding the extreme penalty of death sentence to the accused. With these observations, the court awarded life imprisonment to the accused, besides imposing a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him. |
