Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 30: An interesting but embarrassing situation for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came up in the legislative council today as a minister of the party locked horns with a party legislator at the start of question hour.
As soon as the question hour began, MLC Ramesh Arora of BJP and drew the attention of chairman legislative council, Haji Anayat Ali towards the malfunctioning of the mike system in the House. Arora said that since the mike system is not working in the House it would be better for the members to come out and stage a walk-out.
The Council chairman while accepting the flaws in the mike system said that the same would be set right and there is no reason for the member to speak like that. As the member and the chairman were busy in the conversation, Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat stood up and intervened.
The minister addressed the MLC and said the issue is not a grave one and there was no need to raise hue and cry over the same. He asked the member to have patience since the mike system would be set right in the House and sufficient time needs to be given to the people who would rectify the wrongs in the system.
When it was expected that Arora would sit down he surprised one and all by coming down heavily on Bhagat who is his party colleague. The MLC told the minister not to interfere in the matter and it would be better for him to keep quiet. He said the minister has no mandate whatsoever to talk about the faulty mike system in the House.
The argument between the BJP minister and his party MLC came as a surprise for most of the people especially those belonging to the treasury benches. It was only after serious persuasion that both Bhagat and Arora settled down and sat on their respective chairs. The Council chairman said that an engineer has arrived from Delhi and he would get the mike system corrected today only.
