Encroachment on 'forest land' goes unabated in Rajouri

Rajouri, May 30: Encroachments and illegal constructions are going on unabated on forest land in the Rajouri district especillay by some highly influential people and land mafia but the concerned department yet has to wake from its slumber.
According to official sources, some high profile people apparently are hell bent to encroach forest land in Rajouri district with hands in gloves with some corrupt elements in concerned department.
As per official record available with Early Times, out of 73069 hectares of total forest land in subdivision Rajouri about 1946.3, hectare forest land has been illegally encroached by land mafia.
Official records show that out of total 59071 hectare of forest land about 383 hectares of forest land is under illegal encroachment in Nowshera Sub Division. "Forest official have served many notices to encroachers for evicting the forest Land, but yet has not succeed in this purpose, said DFO, Rajouri Anup Soni
While talking to Early Times, Sr Forest officials said that during the year 2015, a total of 180.9 hectare land was retrieved back from encroachers and department has damaged illegal structures which were raised on forest land.
He also said that encroachment on forest Land is not possible without the active help of officials from within and outside the department. He however, didn't outrightly ruled out involvement of some black moles from revenue department.
DFO categorically stated that revenues officials are involved in encroachment process as without their help the influential people get the forest land encroached by getting revenue records tempered. "Besides this political interference too is also responsible for illegal encroachment, he added. "This alleged nexus between illegal encroachers, revenue officials and politicians is affecting the process of eviction of encroachments on the forest Land. "If Govt and forest department fails to response earliest to this menace, the day is not far when whole of the green forest will be encroached by land mafia, he apprehended.
If recalled here that according to revenue department information over 02 lakh acres of government land has been encroached in the Jammu region and Rajouri with 49502 acres top the list followed by Doda district where 22193 acres of government land was encroached. Atleast 20940 acres of government land are under illegal custody of land mafia in Ramban district while Jammu district with 20444 acres of government land is on 4th position. There is no encroachment of state land in Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh region, the data revealed, the official records stated.
