Govt asks DCs to fix monthly targets for removal of encroachments

Srinagar, May 31: The Jammu and Kashmir government has directed all the Deputy Commissioners of the state to fix monthly targets for removal of unauthorized illegal occupation of state/common land.
The government in a written reply to legislative Assembly has said that it has notified a comprehensive scheme for eviction of un-authorized/ illegal occupation of state/common land in consonance with the Jammu and Kashmir land revenue Act, Svt. 1996, the Jammu and Kashmir common Lands (Regulation) Act, 1956 and other relevant provisions of law in force in the state.
"Under the said scheme, all the Deputy Commissioners have been made directly responsible for identification and removal of encroachments, from the state/ common land.Instructiosn has also been issued from time to time, the latest being vide No. 01. (ND) of 2016 dated 26.5.2016 directing all the subordinate revenue field functionaries to fix monthly/quarterly targets for removal of encroachments".
The government has said that the Deputy Commissioners have been made personally responsible to monitor the progress at their level periodically.
The government has further said that an area of state land measuring 2877 kanals 12 Marlas and Kahcharaie land measuring 8783 kanals and 02 Marals have been evicted/ retrieved in district Bandiporar.
The government has also said that the directions have been passed to all the district administrations to take steps to remove the encroachments in accordance with law. "Enmass eviction of unauthorized occupants of the state land is always linked to law and order issues which have to be taken into consideration while removing the encroachments". The government also said that the court has also passed directions from time to time regarding removal of encroachments which are being adhered to by the Deputy Commissioners while implementing the substantive provisions of law.
