BJP masters art of 'exploiting' people
Mahadeep Singh Jamwal5/31/2016 11:35:01 PM

It is a fact that the BJP has left no stone unturned to exploit the sentiments of Jammuties, whenever any issue erupted. The sentimental exploitation of people to gain power had remained always the agenda of BJP and its sponsored alliances. These politicians are always on the forefront to exploit the people's religious belief to gain their ends. Prior to 2008 elections, this party was always on the forefront to call strikes and to force shutdowns even on minor issues, thereby putting the people into great hardships for their political gain. At that time the discrimination with Jammu was the only agenda of this party and it exploited the issue in a very cunning way for their own benefits. How one can forget the 'Amarnath Land Row' in 2008, which was exploited by these politicians and whole of Jammu region was put to stand still by exploiting religious sentiments of the people.
A brief reminder of the events goes like it that on 26 May 2008. An agreement was reached to transfer 99 acres of forest land to the 'Shri Amarnath Shrine Board' in the Kashmir valley to set up temporary shelters and facilities for Hindu pilgrimages. This caused a controversy, with demonstrations from the Kashmir valley against the land transfer and protests from Jammu region supporting it. The coalition partner of then government PDP withdrew its support from Congress government of J&K as a pressure tactics and political move and as such then Government led by Jammu based Muslim CM succumbed to the pressure of Kashmir and accepted the demand of protesters from the Kashmir valley region by revoking the land transfer decision on 1st July 2008. The PDP did not supported Gulam Nabi led government even after revocation of transfer of land and the Gulam Nabi Azad's government decided to step-down on 7 July 2008. The situation was exploited by BJP cadre in mounting their counter-protests against the revocation and called for the cancellation of the revocation decision. The due elections in later 2008 were also on mind of BJP and it exploited the situation to its fullest. This lead to formation of 'Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti' with Sh. Leela Karan Sharma as its convener, who on 6th August 2008 said that nothing short of revocation of the land transfer to Amarnath Shrine Board would be acceptable. The BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar came out as great sympathizer of Jammuties and on 2nd August 2008 said that 'It seems the centre only understands the voices of the valley and not of the Jammu region'. During 61 day old agitation in the Jammu region, many precious lives were lost. The land row ended with befooling bowl by 'Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti', when it signed the agreement which was confined to the fact that Shrine Board will be making temporary use of 40-hectares of land during relevant Yatra period, when convener had been befooling the people by vociferously claiming that nothing short of revocation of the land transfer to Amarnath Shrine Board would be acceptable. If we deeply look into this episode, we will realize that the BJP had gained its agenda of exploitation of the people on religious sentiments and to create an atmosphere in its favor to secure votes for BJP candidates in ensuing elections of 2008. Ultimately the situation created by BJP was en-cashed when its 11 candidates secured win in Assembly Election of 2008, although later on majority of them were expelled on charges of corruption for voting to Congress-NC candidates in legislative Council elections instead of party candidate. This was the expose of real face of Jammu BJP unit. These expelled MLAs were taken back to party fold before 2014 elections. Under the circumstances we can easily conclude that BJP cannot claim itself to be clean.
The graph of the BJP till elections of 2014 had fallen to such an extent that people were afraid of this party. But during the elections of 2014 the party got oxygen with the formation of BJP government at the Centre. Indians, while casting their vote, took the commitments of Modi, as of bringing back black money to India and deposition of 15 lakh in the individual accounts of every citizen, not joining hands with political parties running 'BAAP-BETI SARKAR' and 'BAAP BETA SARKAR', bringing down inflations, the development agenda, slogan of 'SAB KA SATH-SAB KA VIKAS', corruption free country and so many other commitments. We very much remember the election campaign speech of the PM Narender Modi on 28 November 2014 at Udhampur that he has decided to spend Dewali with the flood-affected people in Kashmir. My decision was not for politics, nor was it for gathering votes. Development has been stuck in Jammu and Kashmir for 30 years. Leaders from ruling and opposition parties indulge in corruption and emotional blackmail. He categorically said that 'we have to work towards the valley's development and I need your help in doing it'. He has tightened screw. 'Corruption, looting and emotional blackmailing has become a habit of politicians in Kashmir. They don't like me, because I have disrupted their plan for corruption. All the money sent to Jammu and Kashmir for its people was collected by two families here'. The people in J&K were also looking for a change of power batons. The BJP at the center en-cashed the peoples aspirations by airing hollow slogans, buttery promises and to provide solace to the people from dynastical rules of two Kashmir based political parties. During the Assembly election the J&K was thronged by the saffron brigade with BJPs mission of 44+. With regard to the scenario of J&K, some of the much boasted commitments were of abrogation of Article 370, a agreeable settlement of west Pak refugees, settlement of Kashmiri migrated families, equitable development of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, to do away the discrimination meted out to Jammu region by the Kashmir dominated Government, granting of union territory status to Ladakh and generating sources of employment etc. These were some of the slogans aired by BJP, which causes this party to capture sizable number of Assembly seats in Jammu region. After the elections, the BJP desperate to taste power in J&K forget its commitments and joined hands with PDP.
The big slogan of star campaigner of the BJP during Lok Sabha elections aired in a very high pitch in filmy style vociferously declaring that he will not tolerate Corruption and in a filmy style used to say "Na Khaunga Na Khaney Dunga" was main print on voters heart as they were fed up with multi crore scandles of UPA government. After coming to power the real face of this party came to fore, when Kirti Azad sitting MP of BJP raised the issue of malpractices in the DCCA and accusing fingers were pointed towards Finance & Information Technology Minister. The demand of enquiry into the scam was considered as 'Anti Party Activity' and he was suspended from BJP. Similarly the accusations of another honest and daring and intelligent MP R.K .Singh from BJP, of distributing Assembly Seats in Bihar for monetary consideration, have to be swallowed by the party, with not a single word on his accusations.
The party stand exposed claims of a 'disciplined' party as during State Elections a staunch party supporter since generations was denied mandate on BJP ticket, took up the elections as independent candidate. No stone was left unturned to accuse the BJP right from Prime Ministerial candidate to State President of the party and claiming the amount in crores spent on the election campaign of the party candidate contesting as MP from Udhampur Constituency, the same candidate was given a Ministerial berth, when the BJP entered into the coalition with PDP.
The general scenario of BJP legislatures and Ministers in J&K State is nothing except compromising with the PDP agenda, discrimination with Jammu region and selling out the sentiments of the voters deceived by hollow slogans and hollow commitments which is adding to the miseries of the people of Jammu as they are forced to take the path of agitation for even a minor relief.
The survival of sitting BJP MLAs is possible only if they listen to their inner voice and understand the feelings of a common man and come out of the coalition. The people have experienced discrimination during Amarnath Land Row, the AIIMS issue and on the issues of boosting of tourism potential in Jammu region, cleaning of lakes in Jammu region, employment avenues, imposing of tax on air fare to Mata Vaishno Devi, imposing of tax barrier and many others. A wave of hatred is blowing against the elected BJP MLAs who are nowadays busy in laying foundation stones of lanes & drains, cutting ribbons of renovated lanes, distributing relief to sufferers, propagating Swash Bharat Abhiyan (its failure is also the talk of the town), Beti Bachao-Beti Padao, Insurance Schemes , good slogans of Make in India, Digital India and many beautiful slogans, but they are not concerned about development issues, unemployment, rising trend of encroachments, price rising, tourism potential in Jammu region, deteriorating educational standards, wrong policies of the government, which have landed employees of all departments in great frustration and hue & cry in industrial sector. Jammuites are not happy with the BJP ministers as they have failed to mitigate their sufferings and end discrimination with them.
