Early Times Report
Jammu, June 24: Incapability on part of the Directorate of Technical Education and its complete lack of coordination with University of Jammu has jeopardized the career prospects of hundreds of students of Government polytechnic who completed their two year diploma course in engineering.
The candidates aspiring to pursue their degree in engineering through lateral entry from GCET are in distress as the University of Jammu has already issued the notification for admissions but the Board of Technical Education has not declared the result of the last semester, thus denying the opportunity to the students. "The University has issued the notification inviting application from June 18 to July 2, but the Technical Education Department has not cared to declare the result and issue the marks lists which are required to be attached with the application as demanded by the University" said a parent, alleging lackadaisical attitude of the authorities towards the future of the students. "Even the results of the revaluation of the students who appeared in bi annual exams has not been declared and now these students can not apply for degree anywhere in the country" he said.
The facility for the diploma holder engineering students to pursue their degree via lateral entry was offered through Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) Jammu recently, as earlier the Jammu based students had to pursue the same in NIT Srinagar, but indifferent attitude of the Technical Education Department is likely to waste crucial one year of the students.
Registrar University of Jammu, Prof Keshav Sharma when contacted said, "In such cases, there is a provision wherein the secret result of the concerned candidates is communicated to the nodal agency, which is the GCET in this case and the admission can thus be done".
