Govt rules out delimitation of Assembly Constituencies till 2026 6/25/2016 11:03:57 PM Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Srinagar, June 25: The government of Jammu and Kashmir today ruled out any delimitation of existing Assembly Constituencies till 2026. The government also ruled out the rotation of reserved categories constituencies in the state as it turned down the clause that mandated the rotation after every 10 years which is 12 years in case of J&K as the term of the Assembly in J&K is for the period of six years. In response to A.Q No. 621 of MLA Rajesh Gupta, the ministry of Law and Justice said that section 47 of the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir provides that until the relevant figures of the first census taken after the year 2026 have been published, it shall not be necessary to readjust the total number of seats in the Legislative Assembly and the division of the state into territorial constituencies. The government further stated that sub section (1) of section (3) of the Jammu and Kashmir Representation of Peoples Act, 1957 provides that until the relevant figures for the first census taken after the year 2026 have been published, it shall even not be necessary to constitute a commission to determine the delimitation of the assembly constituencies in the state added that under such circumstances, the delimitation of the constituencies and rotation of reserved constituencies is not possible till the relevant figures for the first census after the year 2026 are published. It is pertinent to mention that National Conference government in the year 2002 made an amendment in the Act that barred the delimitation of assembly constituencies besides to readjust the total number of seats in the Legislative Assembly of the state and the division of the state into territorial constituencies under Sub section (2) of section 47 of the state constitution.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
