Forest Deptt has no land in Jammu's posh localities like Greater Kailash, Channi Himmat | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar June 25: Much to the satisfaction of thousands of people who had constructed their homes in modernized colonies in Jammu's posh localities of Greater Kailash, Channi Himmat, Channi Rama and Top Sherkhanian, the government of Jammu and Kashmir today stated that forest department has no land in these colonies. In response to A.Q No. 1053 of MLA , the government of Jammu and Kashmir stated that no forest land exists in Greater Kailash, Channi Himmat, Channi Rama, Top Sherkhanian areas while forest land measuring 1455 Kanal and 13 Marlas were transferred to Jammu Development Authority in Village Rakh Bahu in Trikuta Nagar and presently government has no forest land in possession in Trikuta Nagar after transferring of the said land. He added that in areas like Jagti, there is 26804 Kanal and 09 Marlas forest land, 38 kanal and 16 Marlas forest land in Gandhi Nagar, 2 Kanal and 9 Marlas in Sainik Colony, 24996 Kanal at Bathindi (Sunjwan) and 5626 Kanal and 13 Marlas in Sidhra areas of Jammu and thus forest department has total land of 57468 Kanals aand 7 Marlas land in these areas which always remained at the centers of the controversies due to massive construction going on in these years. The government in its reply agreed that many residential house and commercial structures have been constructed in these areas added that there was no cabinet decision or government order for regularization of unauthorized colonies on forest land. The government also stated that land mafia, inadequate forest land record, poor and damaged revenue records, absence of demarcation on field, presence of Forest land adjacent to the expanding city of Jammu and tremendous increase in population in and around city areas is causing on forest land for settlement of people are few reasons which have led to the violation of the provisions of J&K Forests Act Prohibiting. |
