Academics at Govt Schools still far from expected standards

Early Times Report

Rajouri, June 25: Although state government has taken several initiatives for the improvement of working culture, presence of staff in the schools and above all to improve the academic standard in government schools as par with the private institutions but the situation on ground realties is completely different and student- teacher ratio still is very poor in Rajouri district.
On the instructions from the Education Minister, Ch Altaf Hussain, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Rajouri has taken many initiatives exclusively in Rajouri district but despite all these efforts the situation on ground still is gloomy.
Sources said, "Out of 1395 sanctioned posts of Maters in 15 Education Zones in Rajouri district 314 posts are still lying vacant while out of 6404 sanctioned posts of teachers 677 posts are lying vacant. Out of 548 sanctioned posts of lecturers 177 posts are still lying vacant (before the declaration of summer vacations).
Here it needs to mention that as per reports before the summer vacations there was only one teacher at Govt High School at Gundah under Khawas Education Zone who was running the school affairs all alone.
Many schools situated in far off areas under Khawas, Moghla education zones, situated in upper reaches in Kalakot tehsil, at village Khah, Jamola (Peeri Zone) and in the schools situated in border belts in Rajouri and Doongi tehasls are facing acute shortage of Masters, Teachers since a long time and the students from these areas are suffering badly.
"After several complaints from the parents and the students and on the directions from Education Minister and Ch Zulfikar Ali, Minister for CA&PD (MLA, Darhal Constituency in Rajouri district), it has been decided to make it compulsory for teaching staff from every category to serve in these areas at least for one academic session on rotational basis," said CEO.
Referring to the shortage of teaching staff, CEO Rajouri said that after the summer vacations every school will be provided with sufficient staff as 156 new teachers will soon join the department.
To attract the students for the enrollment in government schools the Union Government has taken an initiative of provision of Mid Day Meal up to 8th class. But the teachers responsible for MDM made a mockery of this initiative by remaining absent (unauthorizedly especially in far off areas) from duty and misappropriation of ration for their vested interests.
