Early Times Report

Bhaderwah, June 25: Locals and family members of the martyr Chuni Lal have alleged that state government has ignored the martyrdom of Chuni Lal who was awarded with gallantry awards including Ashoka Chakra, Veer Chakra and Sena Medal for his exemplary courage while defending the boundaries of the nation.
Chenab valley youth have a passion to serve the Indian Army and it is evident from the fact that the area has a large number of ex-servicemen hailing from erstwhile Doda district although Centre and state governments had initiated a number of welfare schemes for the welfare of war widows and their families but these are just a drop in the ocean.
Although people of Bhadewah and families of martyrs have sense of pride including the family of late Naib Subedar Chuni Lal who attained martyrdom while combating with terrorists in Kupwara of Jammu and Kashmir nine years ago but the family and locals alleged the state government has neglected the martyrs family till date.
Expressing her concern over the attitude of State Government towards the martyr's family, Chinta Devi wife of Late Chuni Lal told this reporter that she has appealed to the state administration many a times to help her but her efforts have proved futile as none came forward and the residence of martyr is still without any road connectivity while a petrol pump assured to her by centre too is awaited.
She wants to get a park constructed in memory of her martyr husband in native village Kellar of Bhaderwah but Rural Development Department yet seems not interest to make it reality. 'However, she said, "I initiated at my own but failed to complete the park due to constrained funds
While appreciating Indian Army for helping their family on all fronts even organizing Martyrdom service annually with great enthusiasm, Veer Nari Chinta Devi alleged that local leaders and representatives virtually have ignored the aggrieved family.
She said the families of colleagues of her husband belonging to neighbouring States who also have sacrificed their lives for nation are given relief by the respective Governments but the Jammu and Kashmir Government did not pay any attention towards the hapless family.
She lamented that none of the leaders has ever bothered to inquire about our welfare during past nine years. Meantime father of martyr Shanker Das also regretted that till date no minister including the concerned MLA /MLC bothered to visit their family just to see poor plight of the family. He also said that he had given at least four representations to state government to rename local government school or the road to the name of martyr but since now there is no assertive response.
