According to the documents in possession of Early Times, around 1826 kanals of land which was a retrieved portion of River Chenab at Rajpura Mandi area of Patwar Halqa Panjore Teshil Marh has been encroached by the land grabbers.
As per official records of Revenue Department, the total state land in the area was measuring 2829 kanal and 10 marlas out of which 1826 kanals and 17 marlas is under illegal occupation while 109 kanal 14 marlas was transferred under Rashni Act, around 447 kanals 17 marlas was transferred under 254/c Act, 544 kanals 16 marlas land was occupied by different departments of State Government.
Sources informed that Early Times that taking advantage of the Settlement Operation in 2008, the then patwari of the area recorded hundreds of kanals of river bed land in the names of land grabbers. Shockingly, the then patwari also recorded the 40 kanals of MFP Forest closure land during this settlement operation in the names of land grabbers.
They further informed that land is being sold by land mafia on affidavit only and nearly 25-30 pacca houses have been constructed on the land and families are living in them but the administration has not taken any action against the menace so far.
"The apathetic attitude of the administration can be gauged from the fact that despite repeated representations by local residents before the Deputy Commissioner Jammu, SDM Marh, Chief Engineer IF&C Jammu in this regard, no action was taken by them" they said further adding the complaint was also lodged with CM Grievance Cell and subsequently eleven reminders were sent by Cell to DC Jammu for its early disposal but administration failed to comply with the direction.
