Early Times Report

Jammu, June 26: The government not booking the man, accused of desecrating a religious place here, under Public Safety Act (PSA) has exposed the helplessness of BJP ministers and has put the credibility of its MLAs at stake.
Raising eye brows on capability and steadfastness of BJP ministers on the issues directly related to the sentiments of a particular community in Jammu, seasoned section of society assailed the whole stuff of BJP brand sent in the state legislative assembly saying that there is height of common sense deficit on the wisdom of BJP party in state and at the Centre to put up a show of deaf and dumb before the powerful lobby of Kashmiri leaders hell bent to disrespect the religious sentiments of Jammu people.
Taking a cue from the press reports about revocation of PSA at the instance of Kashmiri leaders which was slapped on Doda youth, religious heads of some organizations said each community has the right to protect its religion and religious places and it's the equal responsibility of one and all to respect religion and religious places of each one.
Educationist bluntly pointed out tha only criteria for revocation of Public Safety Act in a hush hush manner is unfortunate. Are these representatives of people sent to the Assembly trying to tell the public that they (legislators) are sharply divided on such issues on the basis of caste, creed and religion and show their readiness to defend the culprit under the garb of his mental sickness whatsoever whose only target was a religious place at Roopnagar all along his way from Doda to Jammu.
The sources said the accused Doda man, who attacked the religious place apparently appeared physically well built. If it was so and really mentally ill then why was he freely roaming in Roopnagar area instead of being admitted at Psychiatric Diseases Hospital handcuffed and tightly tied in corner of the hospital, they asked.
Commenting about PSA slapped on a person who indulged into an sacrilegious act by the local police and civil administration, a retired officer and now a senior citizen said that it was not something so serious to make a prestige issue by all Kashmiri leaders sending a wrong message to public about tacit compartmentalization amongst the communities in the state.
He raised questions on the sagacity of mind guiding them to unitedly call for revocation of PSA in the Assembly on such a person who has still not been declared as mentally sick by the Medical Board if at all constituted by the government. Where they swayed by the hearsay and rumours about his mental health? All the Kashmir based leaders joined hands together to clamourfor revocation of PSA, he added..
Terming it a politically motivated direct interference in the functioning of the administration, Kusum Singh, an aspirant of civil services said had the government been really serious it would have got the accused examined from the doctors to find out his mental condition.
"It seems a pre-planned ploy to delay medical examination of the accused with the hidden attention to favour the culprit and get him weeded out of the bindings of PSA by using the political clout in the law making body," she added.
A lawyer of eminence from the state said that why was not it solely left on the impending findings of medical board, if at all the accused was a lunatic and decision of court to ascertain whether PSA slapped on him by the administration can be revoked or not , he asked, adding that a few political leaders turned the tide and got the PSA revoked.
Taking cognizance of faith deficit developing over this and other issues pertaining to Jammu between BJP MLAs and its minister now experiencing power, Rattan Dass ,social activist reminded that they should not forget why they were elected by the people of Jammu which was obviously to watch and protect their interests which they failed to do till date.
Sewa Ram Dogra, a veteran politician of yesteryears was of the opinion that local BJP legislators including their ministers should honestly introspect what they have contributed for the betterment of Jammu after their election as till now they proved to be ineffective. If they (BJP) cannot do so at least now, it can be surmised that they have drawn the logical conclusion sensing the pulse of Jammu that it is their first and last chance to be in the state assembly sharing power in the government, he said.
