'People go to Gulmarg during Hartals': Mirwaiz
Separatists admit failure

Srinagar, June 27: In a startling revelation, separatist and Huriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq admitted that hartals called by separatists in Kashmir have lost relevance and that people during hartalsprefer tourist resorts over the protests.
Such an admission of failure of the strategy has been confessed for the first time by any separatist leader in Kashmir.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in one his interview, given recently stated, "If People of Kashmir during hartals go toGulmarg and Pahalgham, the separatist leaders have to deliberate that what they have achieved in the past two decades."
The interview quoting Mirwaiz said that Hartals are the very much part of the resistance movement but need to introspect and think what Hartals have given them. "As we want that Kashmir must get resolved at an earliest but what if it doesn't in near future. How long shall we have to shoulder the coffins of our youth? Therefore it is important that we adopt a prolonged strategy for the sustenance of the resistance movement," Mirwaiz said.
Mirwaiz said that separatists continue to we go with the traditional ways then we are seeing that our political space is being choked. "The effect of Hartal is seen in some areas of Srinagar. Other areas remain normal and even people go for outing to Pahalgham and Gulmarg during the hartal days. This is dichotomy. We have to make people understand that hartal in being given due to a particular reason and movement is not restricted to mere five police stations," Mirwaiz said.
Furthermore, sources said that Mirwaiz during his recent party meet has pitched that the separatists need to introspect as there are no takers to their hartal calls. "We have to understand that people have now become tired of our policies. There are situations when we give a strike call and people do not observe it. It is a sheer failure and it needs a remedy. Either we have to come up with new ideas or simply accept our failure on this front," Mirwaiz has said.
It was also reported that during the joint meetings between Geelani and Yasin Malik, Mirwaiz has expressed concern over repeated hartal calls issued by Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Mirwaiz, as per sources, has gone to the extent of saying that he would no longer extend his support to any hartal call, if given by any separatist leader.
