Fearing backlash, minister lobbies to seek ouster of 'Majnu' official

Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 27: Fearing backlash for having supported this official despite criticism from other lawmakers for over a year, a senior minister is now personally lobbying for the ouster of this Commissioner Secretary over an alleged love story.
The official has come under scanner for his alleged love-affair with an IAS colleague, who on June 17 allegedly attempted suicide by slitting her wrist in north Kashmir, where she was posted.
Following an outcry in the state Assembly, the government has transferred the female official from the pivotal post of district commissioner, which she was holding. but now her male counterpart is under scanner.
It is believed that on the fateful day this official had visited her in north Kashmir and left following an altercation with her at her official residence. Thereafter the female official had allegedly attempted suicide in the washroom.
Though the Baramulla police remained conspicuous for not filing any FIR, the government was prompted to take action following massive outcry in the state Assembly on June 24.
Sources said some of the lawmakers were also contemplating to seek action against the minister who had been pampering the "Majnu" official since last year.
Sources said the lawmakers have decided to pick up the matter with the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti demanding stern action against the minister and his subordinate. Last year the Employees Joint Action Committee and the Teachers Forum had equally been against the "Babu-Mantri nexus."
Sources said last year a group of MLAs from BJP had openly sought transfer of this official for his alleged wrongdoings but the minister stood by him.
But now, finding the ship sinking, the minister played a wicked move. He has been lobbying with his friends in media to expose the accused official in way that his personal collar is saved.
Officials in the Civil Secretariat said this minister has virtually lived up to the maxim that "in politics you have no permanent friends but interests."
"Till yesterday this minister despite knowing all evils would support this official, but now as things have got exposed, to save his own skin, he wants his favorite officer out an earliest," said a group of senior officials.
They said in the past the minister was several times apprised about the murky love-affair but that he kept pampering the "Majnu."
Sources said the official was having a nexus with the minister over transfers of the employees in the department while several contracts were being "illegally given to some influential." "He (official) would virtually play like a puppet in the hands of minister only because the latter was taking care of former's 'personal interests'," the official said.
Meanwhile the deputy speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative assembly on Monday directed the government to remove the IAS officer involved in alleged attempt to suicide by the deputy commissioner.
Earlier, PDP legislator Javid Mustafa Mir asked whether the government has registered an FIR into the alleged suicide attempt that also echoed in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday.
The deputy Speaker Nazir Gurezi directed the government to remove the officer of the rank of Commissioner Secretary while maintaining that such officer could not be put at the helm of a department with a large women workforce.
