849 violations by Pak after ceasefire, 34 civilains, 46 security men killed

Srinagar, June 28: Pakistani troops have violated ceasefire on Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir for 849 times after India and Pakistan agreed for ceasefire in 2003, claiming the lives of 34 civilians and 46 security personnel.
However, since 2002, when highest number of 8376 incidents of border firing were reported, till 2015, 11270 incidents of firing by Pakistani troops were reported, this information was given by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in reply to an Un-Starred question by MLA in the Legislative Assembly today.
The reply said that 180 houses have been damaged due to cross border firing during 2002 to 2015 and ex-gratia s per norms has been provided in respect of death, injuries and permanent disability to civilians. Besides compensation to immovable property is being paid.
However, in the event of Cross Border Firing, the affected border population is shifted to the safer places in government buildings and private accommodations where they are provided all basic amenities till the restoration of normalcy on the borders.
The reply said for the safety and security of border population, under the Pilot Project of Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, construction of 60 Community Type Bunkers in the border villages of district Jammu is under progress.
The Chief Minister said there were 8376 border firing incident in which 76 civilians and 58 security personnel were killed and 345 civilians 157 security men were injured.
In the year 2003, before the India and Pakistan agreed for ceasefire on borders, there were 2045 border firing incidents claiming the lives of 59 civilians and 40 security personnel and 187 civilians and 54 security men were injured.
However, there was total peace on the border in 2004 to 2007 barring three incidents in 2005 but there was no loss of life or injury.
The year 2008 witnessed 26 ceasefire violations in which five security personnel were killed while in 2009 there were 18 incidents claiming the lives of 4 security personnel.
The reply said that in 2010 two civilians and 7 security personnel were killed and one civilian and two securitymen were wounded in 51 ceasefire violations by Pak troops.
There were 31 ceasefire violations in 2011 resulting in the death of two securitymen and injuries to 16 securitymen and a civilian while in 2012 Pak troops violated ceasefire for 79 times in which two civilians and three security personnel were killed and three civilians and 12 securitymen were wounded.
The year 2013 witnessed 229 ceasefire violations by Pak troops claiming the lives of 12 security personnel and 26 civilians and 25 security men were injured while in 2014 thee were 222 violations in which 14 civilians and four security personnel were killed and 101 civilians and 16 troops were wounded.
Last year Pak troops violated the ceasefire for 222 times in which 16 civilians and 9 security personnel were killed and 71 civilians and 14 securitymen were injured.
The reply said during the period from 2002 to 2015, 17605 cases have been registered and 6330 persons were arrested and 6315 persons were challaned.
Thousands of arms and ammunition and other explosives were also recovered which have been kept in Mal Khana of Courts, District Police Lines, Kotes and concerned police stations as case property.
