Bani (Kathua), June 28: The two day long historic Chhinj (Indian style wrestling) Mela concluded at Bani Town on other day with presentation of title to winning wrestler from Haryana by Sr Congress leader and social activist Rajnish Sharma popularly known as 'Mian.' The fair witnessed an overwhelming response from the people of the Bani and its surrounding localities. The final bout was held between wrestler Meenu Khatri, Pehalwan of Haryana and Sukha Pehalwan of Rajasthan in which Pehalwan Khatri lifted the title. On the valedictory function, Sr Congress leader and social activist Rajnish Sharma popularly known as Mian, gave away the winner a prize of Rs. 51,000/- (Badi Malli) in presence of a large gathering of keen spectators. Speaking on the occasion, Mian said, "People from all communities have gathered here with great enthusiasm and this shows spirit of friendship, brotherhood and harmony." On the occasion,. Rajnish Sharma (Mian) Co- Treasurer of J&KPCC, also donated Rs 5100/- to the Pahari Cultural Manch the host of the festival and also promised to make all out efforts to promote this Mela on a large scale next year. Here it needs to mention that Rajnish Sharma has been presenting the winner of the Dangal Rs51,000 for the last five years continuously and the large participation in this Dangal has made the annual Mela more popular, amongst the local population. Some locals said that people of the area wait eagerly to watch this Chhinj Mela along with Cultural Programme which is organized by Pahari Cultural Manch of Bani every year.
