Srinagar, June 28 Asserting that the Pampore attack in which eight security force personnel were killed was a fidayeen strike, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General K Durga Prasad said that security forces are prepared to counter any further militant attacks. However, he said it needs to be verified whether the attack was carried by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) or any other militant organization. "If you look at the preparations made by the militants for this attack and the number of magazines and grenades they were carrying, it is clear that it was a fidayeen attack," he said. He said that the militants were intercepted effectively, however, expressed disappointment that eight jawans were killed in the attack. "Even though LeT has claimed responsibility, but we will still investigate to ascertain which militant organization was behind the attack," he added. Prasad today visited the site of attack at Fristbal Pampore on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. He was briefed about the incident and overall security situation, particularly with regard to annual Amarnath yatra, commencing from July 2 from both traditional Pahalgam and shortest Baltal route. CRPF has been assigned the job of providing security to Amarnath pilgrims at Jammu, on Srinagar-Jammu highway besides at base camps at Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam. |
