Early Times Report

Jammu, June 29: A week left for Eid-ul-fitr but the Government is yet to fixthe rate of meat in Jammu In Kashmir Divisional commissioner has fixed the rate at Rs 400 per kg. The CAPD department which is entrusted with the job of fixing the rate of essential commodities fails to fix meat rate as Director CAPD not being given circular in local dailies to inform the general public about the rate of chicken and Meat, sources added.
As per traditional practice , the difference between the rate of meat between Jammu and Srinagar should be about Rs 120-140 but the butchers sell the meat at their own whims and fancies as the Government has fixed the exorbitant rate of meat at Rs 340 per kg and the butchers sell the same at Rs 360 with impunity courtesy: CAPD for given freedom to them, the rate of meat at Srinagar should be more than Jammu because for Srinagar animals being ferry and for which transportation charges would be taken more but her in Jammu the difference between the rate of meat with Srinagar if we rely upon the present rate is Rs 40 which is really less
"Director CAPD Jammu who is the competent authority to fix the rate of essential commodities reportedly not comes with any 'rate fixation of meat' and he has to taken into consideration before finalizing the rate of Meat particularly that the difference between the both regions and the rate of meat in Jammu should be cheaper then its counterpart Srinagar and if the Div comm. Fixes the rate according to the distance then surely the consumers of Jammu would get relief if Government fixes the rate of meat between Rs 280-300 per kg but it's the time that will tell will Government enhance the rate of meat from the present rate or it would make it decrease "sources added. It is pertinent to mention here that Minister for CAPD has constituted an enforcement and vigilance squad to keep check over the black -marketing, hoarding but reportedly the officers concerned are fails in their obligations as these officers not bother to check the markets in their respective areas and the stalk holders opine that this squad is ,merely an eye-wash as it won't served the purpose and the Minister who otherwise make claims of 'keeping check over the markets by the officers' so that consumers won't being fleeced but officers unable to take action and ultimately its the gullible consumers that have to bear the brunt for no fault of theirs.
"Even the price of live chicken is Rs 140-Rs 150 per kg and the meat of chicken is Rs 220 since two months and the rate not lower down of them and if the Government not go stern then there is apprehension that the butchers would sell at Rs 400 and they given the 'plea' that they would get the animals at exorbitant price" Sources said. Sources divulge that during the holy Month of Ramadan Law enforcing agencies fails to check the markets as the essential commodities being sold at exorbitant price and the consumers allege that the authorities are in deep slumber and 'common man back being broken' over the escalating prices of the essential commodities, thanks to the authorities for casual approach of them. Despite repeated attempts,Director CAPD Jammu G S Chib couldn't available for omments. When contacted Divisional commissioner Jammu Dr.pawan kotwal said "I will surely direct the DC to constitute the squads for the effective market checking coupled with the fixation of rate of meat to CAPD department as Eid round the corner "he maintained. When apprise him that in counterpart Kashmir Div comm. has fixed the rate of meat at Rs 400 per kg, he quipped and said" Div com is the enforcement authority and it's the Director CAPD which is the authority for the fixation of rate of Meat "he asserted.
