60 community bunkers coming up in Jammu for escaping Pak shelling

Srinagar, June 29: Srinagar, Jun 29 As many as 60 Community Type Bunkers (CTBs) are being constructed in Jammu to provide safety and security to the residents living near the borders when there is firing across the border.
This information was given by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also holds Home portfolio in the Legislative Council (LC) today to a question by MLC
However, the official records said that the number of cross border shelling and firing has witnessed increase so has the number of casualities suffered on this side during the year 2015 as compared to previous year.
She said in the LC today that in the event of shelling and firing from across the border , people living in the border areas are affected and temporarily shifted to safer places in government and private accommodations where they are provided all the basic amenities till restoration of normalcy on the borders.
The reply said that with a view to provide safe and security to the border population at the time of firing from across the border, a proposal for construction of 60 CTBs at the rate of Rs 5 lakh per bunker on pilot basis in border blocks of Jammu district has been approved by the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Work on the construction of these bunkers is in progress, the reply said.
Official records said that there were 222 number of cross border firing and shelling incidents during 2015 as compared to 190 in 2014.
Against 14 civilian killings and injuries to 101 others in 2014, the number of deaths was 16 last year and 71 were injured. Nine security force personnel lost their lives in the shelling and firing from across the border last year against four in 2014, the reply said adding 14 security men were injured in 2015 and 16 previous year.
