Jammu, July 22: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), an apex level banking institution in the field of agriculture and rural development, today launched a pilot project on cultivation of medicinal trees in the most backward panchayat Mohargarh of district Samba. On the occasion of launching of the project, Surinder Singh, District Development Manager, NABARD apprised that the project aims at creation of sustainable livelihoods amongst the poor farmers. He told that NABARD has sanctioned this project to Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKAUST), Jammu and will be implemented through the Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), R S Pura. He further added that around one hundred farmers are selected who will be trained, equipped and provided with quality planting material of commercially important medicinal trees. The scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra will provide on farm training and demonstration at farmers field. Farmers will also be trained on Post harvest handling and value addition these medicinal trees. Later, a farmers training programme was also conducted wherein scientists from SKAUST and KVK guided the participants on importance and cultivation of medicinal trees for sustainable livelihood. Prof. S K Gupta, Division of Agroforestry, Dr. Vikas Tandon, Head - KVK, RS Pura, Dr. SP Gupta, Subject Matter Specialist on Horticulture, Dr. Punit Choudhary, Scientist Agroforestry guided the participants. |
