HM in valley, gets first hand information about Kashmir situation

SRINAGAR, July 23: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the first day of his visit met various delegations at Srinagar's Nehru Guest House.
Sources said that the Home Minister met delegations of civil society groups representing various sections, tour operators, hotel industry, youths, fruit growers and priests (Imams) of Srinagar. "After arriving early forenoon in Srinagar today, Rajnath Singh started his day with the meetings scheduled with various groups. He asked the delegations for free and fair feedback and suggestions to bring back normalcy in the Kashmir region. Home Minister gave patient hearing to the representatives of all delegations and assured necessary assistance and action," sources said.
Rajnath Singh will interact with the police, security and the administration. Apart from having meetings with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and political parties, Rajnath Singh will be briefed about the overall situation by the security and administrative officials.
The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is on a two day visit to Srinagar to review the current situation in the Kashmir region in the aftermath of the protests and violence that broke out after the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani (and his two associates on 8th of this month) in Kokernag area of south Kashmir. Besides a policeman, 44 civilians including three women and mostly youths, have died during the clashes between protesters and the security personnel across Kashmir so far. Scores of grievously injured persons with bullets and pellets are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
This is the Home Minister's 2nd visit during the current month to Kashmir. He visited Kashmir on 1st July to review security situation in the aftermath of deadly militant attack on CRPF convoy at Pampore on Srinagar Jammu National Highway on June 25. Eight CRPF personnel had died and around two dozen injured in the attack.
On Thursday, Singh had said he will reach out to people of Kashmir while taking part in a debate on Kashmir in Parliament. He had stated in Parliament that he wanted to hold talks with people whose pain was being felt by every Indian. Union Minister had also said all the happenings in Kashmir were occurring at the behest of Pakistan.
