SRINAGAR, July 23: As the Supreme Court has admitted a plea seeking imposition of governor rule in Jammu and Kashmir, government on Saturday said once it receives the notice from the Apex Court, it will reply to it as per the law.
The Supreme Court will hear next week the plea by Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party seeking imposition of Governor's rule in the state on the ground of paralysis of administration. Bench headed by Chief Justice T.S. Thakur agreed to hear the plea next week on a mentioning by senior counsel Bhim Singh. Singh, who heads the Panthers Party, told the court that for the last fortnight the state is under siege, no public institutions are working, and there is no drinking water and electricity.
Singh said under Section 93 of the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution, the Governor is empowered to assume all the powers to run the state by placing the government and the assembly under suspension. He said Governor's rule is essential now for national integrity and security, and for the survival of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
While PDP-BJP government spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said any one was free to do to go anywhere against the government. "We have not received any notice from the Supreme Court so far. Once we will receive any such letter, we will reply accordingly as per the law," Akhtar told Early Times. "It is the right of everybody to approach the court and we will deal with it according to the law."
Akhtar said the government will take any decision over restoration of mobile services only once it hold the review meetingon Saturday evening. But Akhtar evaded the question when asked that government has failed to deal with the current situation in the Valley and the administration was missing on the ground. Valley is under curfew for the last 15 days following the killing of Hizbul Mujahidin commander Burhan Wani along with two of his accomplices. Over 45 people have died besides over 2000 civilians have got injured during the clashes.
In a first high profile visit since the ongoing unrest broke out earlier this month, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar Saturday afternoon to take stock of the situation as Valley continues to remain under the curfew for the 15th consecutive day on Saturday.
