Jammu, July 23: Kendriya Vidyalaya no. 1 Akhnoor students today were confronted with facts and figures of a critical national issue with far reaching consequences for which PM Narinder Modi held out a loud cry: Beti Bachao Beti Padhao from Haryana.
S. S. Bijral IGP (Rtd) the state convener of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, the chief guest on the occasion said that the long held myth of girl child being inferior intellectually and biologically has since been exploded with girls competitively performing better than boys.
He said the recent induction of three girls in IAF as fighter pilots held out bold message that there was now no gender specific field and be girl or boy depending on merit could out beat the other.
Encouraging girls to not be disheartened over societal preference for male child, urged them to work hard dedicatedly to bring out their inherent long suppressed capabilities. He called upon boys to help bring conceptual change in society towards girl child- their sister.
Dr Surbhi MO Akhnoor highlighted evil prevailing in society of female foeticide through misuse of sonography. She required of the students to confront their elders about this, the harm it causes to the nation. She asserted that male sex chromosome was borne by father and not the mother and thus blasted the myth where woman in society was being blamed for bearing only the female babies.
Principal of the institution Sadhanaya Karan appreciated the movement of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao having been brought to his institution. He said the students always served as strong medium for building healthy and optimistic society and he believed they would carry home the message conveyed to them. On this occasion 15 girls students from 9th to 12th class who scored 100% marks in their last exam were honoured through award of medals by the chief guest.
Anju Dogra state Committee member brilliantly conducted the proceedings. Those who attended the function included Dr Monica, Jagdish Bhagat i/c distt Akhnoor BBBP team, and members namely Ravinder Sharma, Jeevan Sharma, Sukhdev Singh, Rita Verma, Garo Devi. |
