Early Times Report
jammu, July 25: The purpose of opening university campus in far flung areas of Jammu Division has been fulfilled in its entirety with university authority showing scant interest for further growth of Ramnagar campus which is still having two PG courses started initially there
Sources told that Ramnagar campus of University of Jammu (JU) which was started by the then Vice Chancellor Prof Amitabh Mattoo on the directions of the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed with a promise to give boost to Varsity education in the far-flung areas has unfortunately failed to grow as envisaged due to apathy of University authorities. This has marred the academic career of students interested to pursue their further higher studies in the campus there, they added.
Disclosing that the incumbent Director of Ramnagar Campus Prof Rajnikant evinced least interest in developing infrastructure of the campus and expanding the academic activities, sources informed , saying that the professor took over the reins of Ramnagar campus on November 05, 2012. Since then, 43 months have passed but he failed to devote full time there in the overall interest of the institution as he made only 28 visits to the campus within 43 months i.e. just one visit in one and half month which is just good for nothing ,sources added.
Owing to indifferent attitude of the Director who could not spare reasonably adequate time to visit the campus, a grant of Rs 5 crore lapsed, the sources told, adding that the University Grants Commission had sanctioned 10 crore for development of the campus but only 5 crore was utilized while the rest of 5 crore lapsed which is a great loss not only to the institution but to the people of Ramnagar constituency, sources alleged.
Sources further informed that the incumbent Director was paid remuneration around 3. lakh approximately for looking after the charge as Director of the Campus. They further told that he is also the Chief Coordinator of all the campuses and it does not seem justified on the part of the University authority to entrust numerous responsibilities to a single person who has even failed to fulfill his commitment to fully develop Ramnagar campus under his charge as its Director, sources said.
Pertinent to mention that Campus started its functioning nearly 10 years ago with the introduction of two PG courses (Sociology and MCA) and till today the same set of two courses is being run sources informed, adding that failure of the university authority to further introduction new courses has dampened the hopes and aspirations of the youth belonging to far flung area who intend to pursue higher studies at their door steps, sources informed.
