India toughens stand against Pakistan | | | New Delhi has not accepted the suggestion from the PDP,its partner in power in Jammu and Kashmir, and the opposition National Conference for reopening the channels of dialogue with Pakistan. In fact the Government of India would have accepted the suggestion from PDP for holding talks with Pakistan and the separatists for promoting peace in Kahsmir which has witnessed incidents of violence since july 8 following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani and two others in an encounter in Kokernag area of south Kashmir.New Delhi is convinced that reopening of channels of talks with Pakistan and Kashmir separatists were not goling to yield any positive results. It ,New Delhi fears may create a different impression and separatists may start saying that India bowed its head oly because of violence. Also, New Delhi believes, that too rightly, that t alks with Pakistan may not settle the internal and external dimensions of the Kashmir issue which was evident from the tone and tenor of Pakistan Prime Minister's statement in which he has repeatedly said that Pakistan will not ditch Kashmiris and that he will be able to incorporate Kashmir with Pakistan. In fact these statements plus Pakistan Army's support to militants in sneaking into Jammu and Kashmir for raising the level of violence has enraged New Delhi forcing the Union Home Minister,Rjnath Singh to announce that India will not hold talks with Pakistan.Though he did not say anything about the separeatists but he was aware of the dirty role these separatists were playing since July 8 killing. Their relish for calling upon people to observe shutdowns seems to have not yet satiated despite the fact that normal life stands paralysed in Kashmir during the last 18 days as a result of incidents of violence and shutdowns. And see the game of separatists when they gave a call to people to march to Anantnag to pay homage to those killed in police action. This call was fresponded by the Government by imposing curgew restrictions throughout the valley on Monday., Restrictions continued across the Valley on Monday to foil the separatists' march to Anantnag for paying tributes to those killed in the past two weeks. The Srinagar downtown areas falling under six police stations, apart from the volatile Maisuma, close to the central Lal Chowk, continued to reel under curfew restrictions on day 17. These measures had been taken to prevent any trouble in view of the march to South Kashmir jointly called by separatists, officials here said. The separatists have called for a march to Anantnag on Monday and to continue strike tillFriday to protest against the killings in clashes. In south Kashmir, curfew restrictions continue in major towns of Anantnag, Pulwama and Awantipora apart from other towns that have witnessed trouble during the past two weeks following the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8.The death toll in the violence has gone up to 48, with two more--a civilian and a policeman--succumbing to their injuries here on Sunday. Meanwhile, the state Congress, after staying away from meeting Rajnath Singh, has said that the BJP's attitude towards the trouble-torn J&K has not changed. Let one ask the state unit of the Congress if it has played a constructive role while trying to defuse the situation.Like the National Conference the Congress too has been waiting for fresh elections which could be possible if the PDP led coalition Government stepped down or Governor's rule was imposed. For the time being Mehbooba is not ready to resing because with a woman of tough sinews she would fight the separatists to the last for restoring peace to Kashmir.Once peace returns to Kashmir the coalition Government is committed to initiate various development projects and take measures for resolving problems of people.Let people give the coalition Government another chance. |
