Retrenchment of labour triggers unrest

Kathua, July 26: Large number of labourers/official bearers hailing from district Kathua today staged protest demonstration against an industry namely SK Enterprises and alleged that despite guideline from establishment of industry in J&K, the industry has exiled local labors without any prior notice that triggered resentment among local labourers. According to a guideline for establishment of industry in J&K, owners must submit a memorandum of understanding and ensures to provide 80% job avenue to local labors. Labour Commission department must checkup the functioning of the industry and rights of the labor class but the check is not done accordingly that affects the survival of labor. Swantrat Sharma, a victim said only limited jobs are employment has been provided to local labors whereas no PF or other facility is being given to them in SK Enterprises situated in Industry area Hatli Morh Kathua. He said 15 local labourers working since 2004 were exiled without any prior notice that affects their livelihood who gave their precious years to company on low wages and without submission of PF. He said the industry must revocate its order and reinduct exiled labourers with legal facilities. Parmjit Singh Pamma, a social activist, pointed out working of Labour department as exploitation of laborers cannot be done without shelter of Labor Commissioner Kathua to industry. He sought cancellation of permisssion of all those industries which violate guideline and provide avenues to outsiders on low wages. He said Assistance Labour Commissioner Kathua must reform the system and ensure job security to local labors. Rakesh Kumar, asstt labour Commissioner Kathua when contacted ensured to rush on the spot to verify the exact position and reason behind employment to non-locals and ignore locals who have right to get according to guideline. He ensured to initiate serious step against violation of guideline.
