jammu, July 27: If the narcotics seized in last few years from Jammu and Kashmir are any indication, then the state in gaining notoriety for being among the major contributor states, in usage and seizure of narcotics.
Moreover another worry for state is that a new drug 'Ketamine' was seized by law enforcement agencies, obviously it would have been from some youth of state.
According to the data furnished by Ministry of Home Affairs, for the year 2016, the Jammu and Kashmir is on second place in recovery of Anaesthetic drug "ketamine" notorious for its use as a 'date rape' drug.
Upto June 2016, the total quantity of Ketamine recovered in the country is 16.57 kilograms that too only from two states J&K and New Delhi. A total of 3.6 kilograms of drug is recovered from J&K and rest of 12.97 kilograms is recovered from New Delhi.
As per experts, a hallucinogen, ketamine leaves the user with a sense of euphoria or "feeling of detachment. Available in liquid and powder form, its overuse is capable of numbing senses and playing havoc with the body's motor control. Its misuse is rampant. Its powdered form has been associated with sexual assault cases world over.
For the year June 2016, up to June, 52.7 kilograms of Hashish, 36.13 kg Ganja, 4.51 kg of Heroin and 943 kg of poppy straw has been recovered so far.
J&K is also at fifth slot in the list of highest recovery states of Hashish for the year 2016 as out of 1144 kg of Hashish seized, 187 kg is from HP, 196 kg from New Delhi, 424 Kg from UP, 59 kg from Punjab and 52.7 kg from JK.
Moreover for the corresponding year 2015, J&K was at 6th slot in list of highest recovery states in seizure of Hashish, with 727 kg from Haryana, 406 kg from HP, 899 from UP, 421 kg from New Delhi, 293 from Goa and 155 kg from J&K.
In the recovery of Heroin J&K was at 5th slot with recovery of 72 kg of heroin, 155 kg from Haryana, 235 kg from Maharashtra, 98 kg from New Delhi and 601 kg from Punjab.
For the year 2014, J&K was at second place in the list of states with highest recovery of Hashish with Uttar Pardesh stood at first with 993 kg recovery and J&K at second with 226.66 Kg recovery of Hashish.
In the recovery of Heroin, J&K was at third place in the list with 130.73 kg seizure, Punjab at first with 729 Kg and New Delhi with 271 kg of seizure of Heroin. |
