Kathua, July 28: The claims of revamped infrastructure in government schools in Kathua were washed away in incessant rains that lashed the district today.
Government Middle School Rajbagh ward no 10 Kathua turned into pond, due to complete insanitation.
Socialist Students Federation, SSF today staged massive protest demonstration against CEO Kathua outside the school and demanded leveling of the ground. The protest was led by Harmeet Singh Chairman of SSF, who pointed out the leveling work done by Rural Development Department which allegedly misappropriated the funds allocated for the work.
Kewal Kumar member Village level committee, said the matter has been discussed with Chief Education Officer Kathua but nothing has been done till day bringing misery to students that would affect enrollment in coming years. Students confirmed their sufferings and demanded leveling of the ground that would minimize their sufferings and facilitate their academics.Tripta Devi, Head Mistress MS Rajbagh also confirmed sufferings of both staff and students and added that BDO Kathua tendered the leveling of the ground but the work was not done upto the mark. She informed that improper drainage system in the ground causes water logging during rainy days. She confirmed that the bill for the work was released without any NoC from school Management. She demanded more funds for levelling of the ground.
OD Attri BDO Kathua discarded all allegations and informed that the project cost of the work was 5 lakhs but CEO allocated 1.6 lakhs that was insufficient to level the ground.
When asked about release of funds without any NoC from school Management, BDO made several excuses that smelled of his involvement in misappropriation of funds.
When contacted, DDC Kathua, informed that the office had already directed CEO kathua for making the drainage system in different schools wherein water logging has been reported. He ensured inquiry in case any discrepancy in the work was brought to the notice.
