| BJP leaders calling shots in department | | Bankrupt PWD executes works departmentally | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 28: Looting state exchequer on dictate of BJP leaders, PWD has executed departmental works amounting several lakhs in Kalakot and Sunderbani Sub districts, recently.
Despite having huge liability, the department was trying to impress the leaders of ruling party by ignoring rules.
"As per rules to bring transparency in the functioning of the department, there is standard procedure to execute works through tenders system. But Nowshera division PWD, is executing departmental works, that in other words bleeds the state exchequer", sources said, adding that recently several works have been executed in Sub District Kalakot.
"Protection wall on Baragoa-Sailsui road with an estimate cost Rs 1.86 lacs is executed and 100 bags of cement has been released in favour of a contractor departmentally. While maintenance work on Khargala-Tatta Pani road, a stretch of 8 Kilometers, was executed by the department without inviting any tenders", sources said, adding that cost of the retaining wall might exceeded, as estimate amount is very less for the purpose.
"Departmental work on Mohgala-Mathyani is being executed the department and it might cost 7 to 8 lacs", they said, adding that similarly in another work in Salyat-Chatta area of Kalakot is also being executed.
They further said that in Sunderbani leaders of BJP are calling shots. "Several contractors who have blessing of MLA are also getting departmental works", sources said, adding the practice is against rules. |
