'Strikes only bring destruction to Kashmir' Mehbooba slams separatists 7/29/2016 12:09:53 AM Saqib Junaid Early Times Report srinagar, July 28: In a hard hitting statement, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Thursday slammed separatists, saying they resort to strikes which do nothing good for the state but bring destruction in Kashmir. "Encounters also take place during winters but there are not strikes then. Why strikes only in summers and not in winters?" Mehbooba said in her hard hitting speech while addressing the party workers at the party headquarters on the celebration of the foundation day of the PDP. "There are some elements, who were waiting since a long time for the spring, for the tourism and development works to start here and then to do something to create trouble and worsen the situation to have strikes," she said referring to the separatists. She said there are some people who enter a crowd and change the direction of the people and take them to army camps and police stations but flee themselves. "If you can't control your children then how can the security forces be controlled when their guns are snatched." "They are traders and are experts in doing so. While those who leave home for some work or join the rally for fun, they are not stone pelters. Many of them want to see the demonstrations but get killed," the chief minister said. She said many youth had lost their lives in the last 30 years but the strikes had achieved nothing and only brought destruction where buildings were burnt and development activities were halted. "During 2010, there was strike for three months in which 120 youth got killed. Nothing happened. Who talks about them now? Again 45 youth got killed. Whether there is 2-day or three month strike, nothing will happen? Dialogue is the only way to solve all issues. Peace will only come through dialogue. India and Pakistan fought wars in 1947, 65, 71 and 99 but wars haven't served any purpose. We should make them agree to solve the problems through dialogue like Mufti Sayeed and Vajpayee did.
