Jammu, July 29: Jammu and Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) today held a meeting at Rohi Morh, urged upon government to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to DPs of 1947 from PoK. During meeting, committee president Gurdev Singh condemned the current government to follow the footsteps of previous NC, Congress Government for carving out again a new community on the basis of Pahari Language merely for Political consideration. He said that people living in the hilly areas of the State and so called newly carved out Pahari speaking Community already falls under RBA, ST, SC, LOC, OBC are already enjoying such status / reservations in one way or other way with many more privileges. He further said that DPs of 1947 have been thrown out forcibly from the hilly areas of POK viz-aviz Poonch, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Bhimber Kotli etc. also speak languages being spoken presently in the hilly areas and are socially, educationally and economically backward. They are the under privilege section of the society and are living under hygienic conditions in more than 46 colonies identified by the State government. He urged upon the state government to review the decision and demanded to grant ST status to DPs and remaining 7percent reservations be made available for their wards. |
