SHO blackmails coloniser, extorts lakhs from him | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 29: In an alleged act of blackmailing, the SHO of a police station in the summer capital city here is said to have extorted lakhs from a coloniser who has developed a huge chunk of land in an area that falls under his jurisdiction. The land actually falls under the jurisdiction of a police post that falls under the police station the SHO heads. A few days back, he visited the land and asked the coloniser to stop selling the plots, citing certain sections of law which, according to him, had been violated by them, police sources said. The coloniser preferred not to enter into a controversy with him and forthwith stopped all sorts of activities on the land, but a day or two after the incident, he hired the services of a local businessman and sent him to the SHO to sort out the matter, the sources added. Sources alleged that after their meeting, the coloniser allegedly paid Rs 3 lakh to the SHO as first instalment to re-enter the land and resume his business activities. "So that he doesn't face any such problem in future, he has promised to pay him more instalments in future," sources alleged. Sources alleged that after getting a green signal from police, the coloniser was now selling plots at higher rates. He had developed the colony in the area for the first time, sources informed. |
