Lack of facilities affect enrollment in Govt schools 8/3/2016 10:52:17 PM Arun Trisal Early Times Report Kathua, Aug 3: The big claims of BJP-PDP government of revamped infrastructure and efforts to improve quality of education in government schools appear to be in papers rather than on ground in district Kathua as number of Primary schools in district Kathua run without basic facilities. Lack of facilities in government schools especially in Primary schools affect both enrollment and teaching learning process that would be alarm bell for the education department. Like other Primary schools of District Kathua especially of Marheen zone, faces neglect of the department. The premises of the schools have turned into forest areas with presence of snakes and other pests which threaten lives of younger students. The schools have no boundary walls, people use the ground and veranda for sanitation/ cattle sheds during off hours. The ground usually turns into pond during rainy season and preparation of Mid day meal is also affected due to unavailability of water. Anil Jasrotia & Jaspaul Singh, locals, confirmed worse condition of the Government primary School Sunjwan and said government has not provided basic facilities since opening of school in 1976. They demanded upgradation, boundary wall, leveling of ground, drinking water and toilet facilities in the school. Riya , a girl student, talked about toilet and scare of snakes/and dangerous insects in the school. Manohar Lal, a teacher, said ZEO personally reviewed the plight and worse condition of the school, number of applications for boundary wall and other facilities werevsubmitted in the office of ZEO Marheen but no action has been taken till day. He also sought boundary wall and drinking water facilities on priority basis. When asked about worse condition of Primary schools in District Kathua, Chief Education Officer Balbir Singh said government has sanctioned grants for 100 government schools situated in border areas. Compound walls will be constructed soon. He ensured to talk with ZEO Marheen and pay personal visit in PS Sunjwan to know the difficulty facing by students.
