Missing advocate still untraced, HC directs SIT to file fresh status report

Jammu, Aug 4: Even as advocate Raman Wazir, who went missing under mysterious circumstances from Nagrota here on July 31, remains untraced, the high court today directed SIT to file fresh status report on Monday.
"The investigation is in progress. A request for more time is made for bringing the probe to its logical conclusion. The request seems to be genuine. Accordingly, three days' time is granted. However, the SIT head is directed to update the bench about the investigation on day-to-day basis," high court judge Tashi Rabstan said.
Earlier, SIT filed a status report, submitted that it had revisited the spot where the vehicle was found in order to proceed with the search of the place for collection of physical evidence as per procedure with the help of forensic science experts in the presence of respectable inhabitants of the locality and prepared a sketch of the crime scene. The CCTV footage of the advocate's house and recording of CCTVs installed on the national highway from Lakhanpur Toll Plaza to Srinagar and towards Mughal Road Via Rajouri were also taken by SIT.
SIT submitted that it had also gathered details of bad characters, history sheeters and other anti-social elements of the area from Nagrota police station and obtained surveillance files and intelligence data base in order to explore the angle of kidnapping as well. That crucial Call Detail Record (CDR) of the mobile phone and i-Pad belonging to Raman Wazir had already been collected and minutely analysed. Similarly, the Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts and Emails were too being checked by SIT and data retrieving was in process in order to determine whether recent activity contains any clue which could be crucial to the case.
Bank/ATM details of the advocate were also being collected to analyse recent financial transactions. Besides this, a brief recent history of family and relationship dynamics, the nature of his personal land disputes and their status too were being explored by SIT which would help the investigating team comprehend better the reasons behind the missing. Picture, detail and descriptions of the advocate were being got published in print and flashed repeatedly in local electronic media besides the details have been uploaded in the missing persons web portal of the state crime branch. The information has also been disseminated in various social media close group users like Facebook,WhatsApp,Wechat, Live etc created to exchange information on crime incidents and for making efforts to reach out to society besides the information has also been shared with National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB),New Delhi, and pamphlets with the photo description of the advocate were too being printed for circulation for widening the area of search.
It was also submitted that in order to have a quick survey of the vicinity in order to make an estimate of the situation, aerial search operation radius through state chopper was also carried out and SIT was adopting pro-active multi-pronged approach in tracing out the missing advocate, which were sure to deliver desired outcome within the shortest time period, as such indulgence of the court was being sought to grant some more reasonable time so as to conclude the exploration.
Justice Rabstan, after going through the status report and hearing the lawyers, observed that keeping in view the sensitivity of the matter and to maintain the confidentiality of investigation, brief in-camera proceedings with SIT members, who were present in the court, were also taken up in the official chamber. He granted three days' time to SIT to bring the investigation to its logical conclusion and directed the SIT head to update the bench about the investigation on day-to-day basis and file fresh status report on Monday.
Meanwhile, BAJ has decided to suspend work on August 5, 2016 in the high court and the district court complex, Jammu. (JNF)
