Training of rural women for processing seasonal fruit, vegetables held | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 24: Four days vocational training programme for rural women on preservation and processing of seasonal fruits and vegetables concluded here at KVK-Jammu R S Pura. The programme was coordinated by Sheetal Badyal, SMS (Home Science) and assisted by Poonam Abrol, Programme Assistant (Home Science) under the guidance of Dr VikasTandon, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK-Jammu. More than 30 farm women from village ChakBalla and Mothey of R S Pura tehsil participated in the programme. During the training course women were imparted theoretical and practical knowledge on preservation of fruits and vegetables. SheetalBadyal highlighted the importance and role of women in agriculture and allied activities and motivated them to supplement the family income by adopting various entrepreneurial activities related to agricultural sector. Women were demonstrated technology in processing of tomato, lemon, mango, peer etc and were trained in making value added products like tomato sauce, tomato purees, mango murrabba, squash etc During the concluding session, Dr Vikas Tandon expressed his pleasure that farm women enthusiastically participated in the programme and highlighted the role of horticulture crops in providing nutritional adequacy in diet particularly in present scenario. He motivated to women to work in groups by farming self-help groups for economic empowerment. Dr S P Gupta, Scientist (Horticulture) and Dr Rakesh Sharma, Senior Scientist (Agril Extension) also participated. |
