Health Services affected due to transfer of doctors

Ramban, Aug 24: State Health Department has always been in the news for one reason or the other as this is the only department dealing with the precious life of the people , but is not providing satisfactory services reason best known to the people sitting on the helm of affairs.
Nowaday, District Hospital Ramban is in limelight due to shortage of doctors, if sources were to be believed, there are few doctors at present posted in this hospital for around 3 lacs population of district Ramban.
Recently the State Government has transferred seven doctors including four specialists from the said hospital but failed to fill the vacant post till now which adds woes to the patients' difficulties.
Sources said that there are several posts of medical staff which are lying vacant due to which patients have to suffer. Beside this, MBBS doctors are treating those patients which need specialist doctor, resulting into improper treatment. "Due to lack of staff and modern equipments, the hospital remains non-functional, one can witness heavy rush in the emergency ward while two patients are forced to accommodate on single bed, owing the shortage of doctors" said a insider adding that on the other side the building of Trauma Hospital remain defunct from the long time for the same reason. This hilly district having maximum population in rural and hilly area lacks the required infrastructural facilities besides this district falling under accident prone area which need a highly equipped hospital, but the picture is totally showing the opposite side.
There is acute need of a specialized surgeon, and female Gynaecology besides two posts of dental surgeons is also vacant.
"Adding to the woes of the patients some injections and medicines which are required in emergency are also not available in the hospital and patients are asked to purchase it from market" sources maintained.
Sources further said that the Pediatric Department is also without specialist putting hundreds of children under constant threat daily whereas the Special Newborn Child Unit (SNCU) unfunctional from the past long time.
One could understand the plight of health institutions in the district, when even adequate medical staff is not available in already deficient hospitals. Locals alleged that the doctor referred them at last time to Jammu or Srinagar as there is no proper infrastructure for operation and other things causing loss of many precious lives.
While talking to Early Times Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ramban Dr Anwar Bhat said as far as orthopedic surgeon transfer is matter sub judicial while the joining of Pediatrician is subjected to completion of his registrar ship.
