BJP lawmakers indifferent to Ahata Amar Singh demolition
Vikramaditya to take up issue with Div Com

Jammu, Aug 24: The lawmakers of Bhartiya Janta Party, which has been representing the Jammu East constituency for the last many years and are champions of Jammu cause were found showing cold response to the proposal of bulldozing Ahata Amar Singh heritage building but Dogra scion has termed the proposed move, most unfortunate and asserted to take up matter with Division Commission, once again.
Scion of Dogra ruler, who is also Member of Legislative Council (MLC) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vikramaditya Singh said, "My intent is very clear, the proposed move is most unfortunate. Residential quarters can be constructed at any place but these sites are identity of Jammu. If such historical sites will not be protected, then what we will show to our upcoming generations."
He further said that former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and present Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti are very much clear to protect the heritage of Jammu. "Earlier also I had taken up the matter with Divisional Commission and soon, he will once again take up the matter with Div Com and will get the full details", he said, and asserted that such attempts to destroy historical sites must be stopped.
On the other hand the incumbent as well as former legislators, representing Jammu East constituency are from Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), self claimed champions of Jammu were found showing cold-response to the proposal of bulldozing the Ahata Amar Singh palace, which is enlisted to be included in the list of protected monuments by Archives, Archeology and Museums department.
Incumbent MLA of Jammu East Rajesh Gupta in a casual way said, "Such historical buildings cannot be demolished. On one hand we are spending funds for preservation of such sites but on the other if we will demolish such sites, it will not be good". He further said, "You should take the matter with Priya Sethi, who is culture Minister".
Whereas MLC Ashok Khajuria said, "Such sites should not be destroyed. These monuments have historical importance."
He further said that he was in Delhi and will look into the matter.
Both the BJP leaders were found not interested to stop the proposed plan of Estates department to demolish the building and construct government quarters there.
Meanwhile, the inhabitants of area informed Early Times that they have secured a permanent stay from court against the orders of Estate Department to vacate the area and the next date of hearing is on 9th of September 2016.
