American muslims oppose demand for freedom for kashmir
8/25/2016 8:51:00 PM

Now that 44 days have passed and there does not seem any end to violence in Kashmir that has swept the valley since july 8 when Hizbul Mujahideen coimmander, Burhan Wani, had been killed by the security forces. So far about 70 people have been killed, including two security personnel, and several thousand people, including 3,000 security personnel, have been injured in clashes between the protesters and the security forces. If the scale of violence is any guide will it last for five months as had happened in 2010 when Omar Abdullah led a coalition Government in alliance with the Congress. Then over 120 people had been killed. But this time the severity of violence is felt all over the vale of Kashmir and people wait for the day when either the state Government is dismissed or the security forces get firm instructions to stop making excessive use of pellet guns.
Taking note of the excessive use of force by the government forces against the civilian protesters in the Kashmir valley, the Association of Indian Muslims of America (AIM) has sent an appeal to the President of India.AIM that represents a large number of Indian Muslims living in North America sent an appeal on Friday to Pranab Mukherjee demanding to contain forces in Kashmir. In the last five weeks 65 civilians have been killed in Kashmir.Forces are consistently using pellets and have so far fired about 1.3 million pellet bullets or 1 pellet for every 10 people of Kashmir. The army has also been raiding the houses of civilans at night in the villages, dragging them out and beating them viscously.Kaleem Kawaja, the Executive Director of the Association reportedly has said that the Association opposes the demands for freedom from India of those Kashmiris who are holding protests or throwing stones as it considers the state of Jammu & Kashmir a part of India. However the Association condemns excessive use of lethal force against the civilian Kashmiris that has resulted in such grievous loss of life and injuries.
Life stands paralysed and there is no work either in the Government offices, including the civil secretariat,or in the educational institutions.Traders and transporters and all those connected with tourism and pilgrim tourist traffic have faced enormous losses.Still the separatists continue to call for shutdowns. And Omar Abdullah has a new tale to tell.He has claimed that when the valley was swept by violence during the summer months of 2010 Mehbooba Mufti had been visiting New Delhi pleading for dismissal of Omar Led Government. He has alleged that Mehbooba even locked the civil secretariat and went round the city sitting on the bonnet of her car campaigning against the NC-Congress coalition Government. Omar has claimed that this time the opposition has not gone to that extent. But if he has not campaigned for violence and for dismissal of Mehbooba led Government he and his party besides the congress have not been helping the Government to tide over the crisis. Finally separatists and their followers, who have incited people to violence, may give a thought to he suggestion of AIM which has opposed peoples' demand for freedom from India and end violence.
