Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 26: After getting poor response from the United Nations (UN) and other world bodies, the Huriyat hawk, Syed Ali Geelani, in a bid to get public attention again, has written to the Army with bizarre demand to vacate Kashmir valley at an earliest. Geelani was recently ridiculed by the United Nations chief Ban Ki Moon when he clarified that UN has no role vis-à-vis the Kashmir resolution and that it is the Indian government that can pacify the internal anger. It further upheld the Tashkant and other agreements that both India and Pakistan signed to end the pending issues. Now when all the efforts seem to be proving counter-productive for this 86-year-old pro-Pak separatist, he has come up with the latest idea of raising an un-natural demand. His desperation to score more points in Kashmir's political landscape came to fore at a time when he wrote a letter to Army, Indian Armed Forces, Indian Navy, BSF, CRPF, ITBP and CISF, asking them to vacate Kashmir. "Since we believe, there must be some humanity left in your persons as sons, brothers, husbands, fathers and as people; we appeal you to lend solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir for our rightful self-determination, and the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to be free. We call on your conscience to end the long chapter of deception, tyranny and death. Therefore, we appeal and urge you to leave our land. Save your individual conscience and help your national soul with healing that only comes from acknowledgement and acceptance of truth, i.e. People of Jammu and Kashmir are not with India and will never be," reads the detailed letter. What is ironic in this letter is that it has been written at a time when the government of India is saying no to any talks with the pro-pak separatists like Geelani. Furthermore, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has already maintained that there is mere five percent of Kashmir's population that is taking the entire 95 percent hostile to their violent moves. She has in detail stated how children are being used by the separatists during protests to instigate more violence. Furthermore, as the GOI is holding talks with civil society, traders, employees and other stake holders, ignored separatists have felt the ground shaking beneath them. The world bodies as well the GoI's sideling Geelani has caused jittery within his camp - making them wonder when will be the next time that they would fish in the troubled waters. Amid, GoI's tough stand, Geelani's letter to army has revealed the desperation that he has to stay relevant at present. It wouldn't be wrong to assume that this Pro- Pak separatist is sending enough signals to the helmsmen to take them on board. Only time is going to decide what more is in Geelani's political cupboard. |
