Early Times Report

JAMMU, Aug 27: The J&K Government has, it seems, finally decided to act against conspirators, organizers and saboteurs in Kashmir to bring the situation under control and restore normalcy in the rest Valley.
Two significant developments took place on Friday and both indicated the resolve of the government to take action against those who created lawlessness and anarchy in the Valley and created a situation which brought everything in Kashmir to a grinding halt.
One was the reported decision of the Home Department to book at least 169 persons, whom the government held responsible for what happened in the Valley after Hizb commander Burhan Wani's death on July 8.
"The Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to book 169 persons, which it accuses of being 'organisers and provocateurs' in the current uprising in Kashmir, under the Public Safety Act," a media report said on Friday.
"These 169 are among the estimated 1,000 people who have been identified as key players in the ongoing protests and clashes with government forces," reported a leading national daily.
The other reported decision on the ways and means the state government has planned to take recourse to avoid further killings and injuries said that the concerned police authorities on Friday asked the people to make their wards not to come on to the roads to participate in violent rallies so that there was no further casualty of and injury to anyone. The authorities appealed to the people to pay head.
The second decision could be termed an appeal, as also a strong warning.
Appeal in the sense that the government sought the people's cooperation and warning in the sense that it sent a clear message to one and all that those taking recourse to violent methods of protest would not be spared and that there could be more casualties in case the people didn't appreciate the government decision taken in the interest of the people and the region.
It was for the first time that the authorities demonstrated their resolve to tae action against those who created the present mess in the Valley and that the people were also told in no uncertain terms that the ball is in their court.
It would have been better had the authorities acted soon after the killing of Burhan Wani. Let's see if the reported decisions of the state government produced the desired results or not.
