Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 28: Former Minister and Senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla today lambasted PDP- BJP government for not providing basic facilities to people of state. However, the government had claimed that it has launched many flagship schemes for development and welfare, benefits have not trickled down and a major course correction is needed. After visiting Langar village near Kunjwani in Gandhi Nagar constituency as a part mass contact programme to mobilize public opinion to maintain peace communal harmony and brotherhood to defeat nefarious designs of vested interests. Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that ironically, the public representatives from Jammu, who won massive mandate and enjoyed support of traders lobby, are yet to utter a word or two on the quantum of losses incurred by the traders from Jammu region and what steps they are going to take to mitigate their sufferings.
"Several households in rural areas of state have no access to basic amenities like drinking water, sanitation and electricity and situation in Urban areas is also far from reality what Government time and again boosts", Bhalla said, adding that despite the hype about financial inclusion and extension of banking and credit to rural farmers, the proportion of rural households availing any banking services was marginable.
Commenting on health scenario in state, Bhalla said that despite the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), rural healthcare suffers from the lack of qualified personnel at every level from paramedics to doctors and specialists and requires greater investment in physical infrastructure too.
NDA's much-talked-about sanitation programme, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, is largely unimplemented in J&K, which is partly ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Several schools lack toilets for girls and for boys besides no basins or taps to wash hands near toilets and urinals. Sanitation facilities in the state are very poor, and this is not only limited to villages, the situation is similar in cities and healthcare institutions as well. Government even failed to adopt the concept of developing "Model Villages" for over all development of the rural areas. The prominent workers present on occasion include Satish Sharma , Kuldeep Chib, Amaranth, Satpaul, Vijay Sharma, Puran, Jamwal ,Buti Ram, Gyan Chand, Mohinder and Tanvir.
