Enjoying unrest! Mirwaiz gets VIP hut at Cheshma Shahi
Making mockery of detention

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 28: In yet another instance of anti-India and anti-national elements being treated as VIPs the government has "detained" the Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a special tourist hut at Cheshma Shahi in the picturesque foothills of Zabarwan hills in Srinagar.
Sources said the "sub jail" is a hut, actually made to meet the requirements of the "VIP guests or "high end tourists" and under normal conditions when tourism is at its peak, it is difficult to get accommodation and such facilities.
Its in place to mention here that during the past 50-days the Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been issuing protest calendars on regular basis. "It's ridiculous that instead of booking him under the Public Safety Act (PSA) government is treating him like a state guest," said an analyst.
He said, "It's an established fact that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Yasin Malik have set Kashmir on fire to appease their bosses sitting across the Line of Control. Government is booking small fishes under PSA while the big fishes are calling the shots. It's ridiculous!"
An official said, "Basically Cheshma Shahi area has been developed for high-end tourists or VIPs who want to spend some good time here but as present there are no tourists so this hut (Where Mirwaiz has been kept) is being used as sub jail."
He said over the years during unrest in Kashmir during 2008 and 2010, this hut, which is otherwise also used mainly to host senior police officials or their guests, was converted into "sub jail where high profile separatists were detained as and when needed."
"The same hut was used to detain some senior separatists during the 2010 unrest. We find this accommodation safe to detain separatists because here they can neither complain of ill treatment nor any protesters can reach them in this high security area to create a law and order problem," said a source in the Home Department. Denying that it was any luxurious treatment to the separatists, an official said the move was "strategically right." "Such separatists are political detainees who cannot be given chance to complain of any ill treatment whereas they also have a threat to life if kept with other inmates in jail, so we handle such cases with utmost caution in isolation," the official said.
The Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was shifted to the Chesma Shahi after being taken into custody on August 26.
The transfer of Mirwaiz to the Chasmashi hut is contrary to the past practice of the government, which usually released the moderate separatist after keeping him in detention for a few hours or keeping him under house arrest for long.
The Government spokesman, Naeem Akhtar, told a media that Mirwaiz's arrest was temporary requirement till the situation is brought under control.
Sources said on getting instructions from the higher ups to arrest Mirwaiz, he was initially shifted to Nigeen Police Station and detained there. "But subsequently the top brass intervened and sought his shifting to the CheshmaShahi Sub jail," the sources said.
