Modi for carrot and stick policy for dealing with Kashmir turmoil
8/29/2016 10:50:09 PM
After breaking his prolonged silence Prime Minister,Narendra Modi, floored the opposition when he,in his Mann ki Baat, stated that any loss of life in Kashmir is loss to "our" nation. While former Chief Minister. Omar Abdullah has lauded Prime Minister for making a detailed mention about the Kashmir situation one JD(U) leader, K.C. Tyagi, while appreciating Modi's sentiments on Kashmir situation, wondered as to what was the reason for Modi to remain mum for all these months when the casualty has touched 70 within 51st day of the turmoil in Kashmir. Well Tyagi should know it that law and order is a state subject and had the prime Minister opened his mouth about the turmoil it may have been misconstrued by the PDP as interference in the state affairs. If there was delay on the part of Modi to express his feelings on the Kashmir situation he has corrected his silence by beautifully saying that any loss of life in Kashmir is a big loss to the nation.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking up the Kashmir situation in his radio address, saying it was "good to see" him continuing from where he left after meeting the opposition parties from the state. Good to see Modi continuing where he left off after meeting opposition parities in Delhi last Monday. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has said that "ekta and mamta" (unity and maternal love) were key to solving the Kashmir problem and called on political parties to unite as he addressed the nation in the 23rd edition of his radio programme, 'Mann ki Baat'. He used the amendment Bill to introduce Goods and Services as an example of what a united front could achieve. It is the strength of the country that unity of vision has led all political parties to join hands on GST and Kashmir. Ekta and Mamata are the two mantras with which we can deliver the best for the people of our country," he said his emotional appeal. We must strive to protect and preserve our unity and integrity. Unity in diversity is our strength and it is our bounden duty to ensure that all of us as citizens, as a society, as a Government give strength to the voices which maintain our unity Modi has said"Any life lost in Kashmir, whether of any youth or any security personnel, is our own loss," Modi said. "Those pushing youth towards stone pelting in Kashmir will some day have to answer them. Those using young children as shields for spreading violence would have to answer them. People who are putting innocent young boys forward to disrupt peace in Kashmir... one day they will have to answer to these boys," he said in a speech that indicates a change in the central government's approach to the ongoing crisis Pakistan. During his conciliatory note Prime Minister dropped a hint on his plan of holding talks with all stake holders. In fact Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has suggested to Modi that the Government of India should hold talks with separatists and Pakistan. Though Modi did not make any commitment on holding talks with Pakistan he simply told Mehbooba that the process of dialogue would be started soon and in this case an All Party delegation is visiting Kashmir to hold talks with separatists and other cross section of people. The Government is hopeful that members of the All Party delegation may be able to break the ice as they had done in 2010 when the valley was swept by incidents of violence in which 120 people were killed.
