Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 2: Lives of snake bite sufferers on risk, the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) itself suffering from dearth Anti Venom Serum (AVS), since day when a major fire broke out in medical store and gutted all the medicine available there on August 3. Sources in the hospital told Early Times that the hospital, facing acute shortage of AVS to overcome the cases snake bite, since the medicines gutted fire on August, 3 this year. "AVS is not like other medicine available in market, for AVS the hospital has to place order in advanced", sources said, adding that till the fire broke in the hospital's medical store, there were sufficient supply of AVS. "All vials of AVS, stored in the hospital had damaged in the fire", sources said, adding that paradoxically no fresh order to purchase AVS was placed when the medicines were gutted. "The AVS manufacturers rarely and during the summer season its demand increases in many fold, it is difficult manage for us," said a doctor and added that the AVS is being supplied at GMC&H by Himachal Pradesh and Hyderabad bases manufacturers. "Being premier option of better health care, the cases of snake bite sufferers, across the Jammu refers at GMC&H, in the absence of sufficient stocks of AVS, it will difficult to justice with each cases," sources said, and added that for fast effect, the Anti Venom Serum should be injected intravenously as soon as possible after the bite. As a first dose, at least 20 ml. of the reconstituted serum should be injected intravenously very gradually (for every 1 ml per minute). "The second dose should be repeated two hours after the first dose or even earlier", they said. |
