Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 24: At a time when the central government employees are enjoying the benefits of seventh pay commission, the school teachers in J&K, who were engaged against 'shifted' posts in Jammu division, are alleged to be without salaries for the last nine months.
The delay in release of their salaries also exposes the rationalization claims of the education department as without completing the requisite modalities, they have rationalized the schools.
A teacher engaged in district Kathua informed that they were engaged in the month of January but they had so far not received even one month's salary. "Above one hundred teachers engaged against shifted posts have been working without salaries for the last nine months. Many times, we have approached the CEO, Kathua, but he has returned us with fake assurances every time," he alleged.
"On July 15 this year, the issued a circular No CEOK/19461-74 in which the DDOs of Kathua district were asked to submit the namewise and monthwise requirement of salary till July 18.
It was also mentioned that Director School Education had issued verbal directions to release the salary of newly appointed teachers engaged against shifted posts from the overall cadre strength but even after a lapse of more than two months, the needful is yet to bedone", he said.
Apart from Kathua, teachers engaged against shifted posts in in other districts of Jammu province were also getting their salaries, sources alleged.
Another teacher said in view of the non-release of their salaries, they were finding it hard to make both end meet.
"Many teachers have failed to clear the debt of grocery stores. The school and tution fee of wards is being paid after taking loan. The situation is worst for the", he said, adding it seemed that department was not interested to sort out the issue .
Kathua CEO Balbir Singh didn't respond to the repeated calls made on his cellphone.
