| Sports Council befools young sportsmen | | Publishes vague, tricky recruitment notice | |

Srinagar, Sept 25: Notwithstanding the fact that the Secretary J&K State Sports Council is the president of the youth wing of the ruling PDP and the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti swears by the youth rhetorically, the apex sports body which the duo head as the secretary and the president respectively has hoodwinked the sportspersons by issuing a recruitment notice that reflects the bigoted attitude of the Council towards them.
While, Sports Council has been abused by successive Sports Ministers as asylum for their relatives and associates, first time in the history of the state sports council, a recruitment notice has been issued seeking applications from the candidates with sporting background for various posts, but the ambiguity and deceit in the recruitment notice has demoralized hundreds of aspiring young sports persons who want to apply for these jobs.
In the recruitment notice issued by the Council in section of print media vide advertisement notice no DIP/k-NB-1270 dated 24.8.2016, the Council has sought applications from candidates with sporting background and specific qualification for the posts of junior coach, ground incharge, assistant store keeper, electrician and plumber, but the advertisement reads that the services of those selected shall be regularized in accordance with the SRO 220.
The clause has infuriated the aspiring candidates who allege that the Council has deliberately advertised these posts under the said SRO, which calls for payment of only basic salary for five years to an appointee. "So many posts have been advertised and filled by various government departments and SSRB during the last one year, but nowhere has this SRO been brought in, then why has Sports Council published these posts under this SRO" questioned a candidate from Baramulla. "This is an attempt to drive the deserving candidates away rather than to recruit them" he added.
Pertinently, the said SRO was published by the previous government which implemented New Recruitment Policy under which, the appointees were paid only the basic pay for the first five years of their appointment, but eventhough Omar led coalition government scrapped this policy just before completion of its term, many believe it was major reason behind National Conference's defeat in last assembly elections.
Sources in the Council said that a lobby of hypocrite officials and officers is behind incorporating this clause in the recruitment notice and the standing committee, which is the highest decision making body in the Council has not approved it. "This a ploy of a lobby of corrupt and deceitful officials of the Council, who are themselves holding positions illegally and do not want deserving candidates to come to the Council" said another candidate from Srinagar.
A member of the Council when contacted confirmed that the matter was not discussed in the Standing Committee or the General Council. "The proposal for new recruitment was discussed in several meetings, but there was no mention of SRO 220" said a senior member from Kashmir pleading anonymity; he assured to take up the issue at the next meeting. |
