Rajouri ,Sept 26: Inhabitants of many villages including Dodaj, Kalsian Bhawani Triyath, Pingalgala, Darhal, Ghambhir Mughlan, Jhangar etc in Rajouri district have held protest demonstrations against the officials of Public Works Department ,Road & Building (PWD, R&B) alleging that department has failed to provide them better road connectivity for the last many years.
Agitating local alleged that at some places roads apparently have been dotted with potholes due to heavy rains which cause inconvenience to daily commuters.
"The Darhal- Dodaj road a life line for over thirty thousand population is also in a bad shape even the transporters too have reduced their vehicles frequencies to avoid damage to the their vehicles this forcing problems to employees and students who have to walk long distances" said Mohd Amin resident of Dodaj.
Another villager said that the road was constructed and blacktopped about 10 years ago and since then no repair was carried out by the department.
Protesters warned large scale protest demonstration in the near future if the departments failed to carry out repair work on this road.
When contacted concerned AEE, PWD (R&B) said that the department will start black topping on the Rajouri-Darhal road very soon for which the construction and widening work was in progress for the last more than six years. "The department has also taken up the repair work for other link roads from Darhal town but it will take few more months to start the work which also include Darhal-Dodaj road," he added
Meanwhile local from Jhanger also lamented that the border road between Kalsian and Jhangar is in dilapidated condition. "This road maintenance is entrusted to Border Road Organisation (BRO) but the authorities concerned have failed to maintain it knowing that fact significance of the this strategic road for army," said Naresh Kumar.
"Another road of vital significance for the defence point of view is Jhangar - Sarya road which also is in bad shape, locals rued.
"The matter was taken up several times with the local Army commander/ COs of various units and the civil administration but nothing has been done till today," they said.
Some local raised the issue of link road between Bhawani to Mangla Devi temple, which is under Tourism Department, but yet is a glaring example of negligence on part of PWD(R&B) department.
Local said despite knowing the Navratras are at hand and thousands of pilgrims from within and outside the district will throng to temple yet the authorities are in slumber. "Tehsil administration must repair this road before the Navratra festival begins," said Bindu Kumar, sarpanch.
Making special mention of other roads people of district said, "Apart from these Darhal-Kandi road, Rajouri-Darhal road, Triyatyh -Pingla road, Rajouri-Dassal road and etc are also in bad shape.
AM Wani, SE, PWD(R&B) briefly said, "Due to shortage of required funds the repair/black topping work on many roads in Rajouri district couldn't be taken in hand.
"Now most of the roads have been taken up under PMGSY and soon the required funds will be made available," he added.
