| Time for action has come | | Kashmir unrest | |

JAMMU, Sept 26: J&K acceded to India on October 26, 1947 and the accession was legal, final and irrevocable. However, ever since then, Kashmiri separatists have been creating one trouble after another for India in Kashmir and this despite the fact that Kashmir has been at the helm ever since then with the people of Jammu and Ladakh struggling to obtain justice and fair play.
The need of the time then was to rein in and bring to justice the traitors to restore peace in the Valley, but the powers-that-be in Delhi thought otherwise. They evolved and implemented a strategy that further aggravated the situation in Kashmir instead of isolating the trouble-makers, all Pakistani agents. Delhi adopted a policy of incremental concessions which not just accorded respectability to the kind of politics the Kashmiri fanatics and separatists had been indulging in or taking recourse to but created a situation but also created serious doubts in the minds of the international community about the political status of J&K vis-à-vis India. Pakistan took full advantage of New Delhi ambivalence and confused policy and troubled India in Kashmir and elsewhere in the country from time to time, which cost India thousands of innocent lives, loss of our brave soldiers included.
New Delhi got several opportunities to show Pakistan its rightful place and end the cult of separatism in the Valley. It got opportunities in 1947-1948, 1965, 1971, 1999 and even thereafter, but it lost all the opportunities; it converted the splendid victories of the Indian army into humiliating defeats at the negotiating table. New Delhi could have crushed the Pakistan-sponsored low-intensity proxy war after unleashed after 1987, but its weak-kneed policies only further harmed India and allowed Pakistan to bloody and convulse the Indian political scene all across India at regular intervals. There was no policy at all.
The September 18 Uri attack and the martyrdom of our 18 jawans was an opportunity to strike and avenge the Pakistani attack but again Delhi exhibited its chicken heartedness. Instead of retaliating, it only held meetings, meetings and meetings. It was time for Delhi to lead the wounded nation from the front and take one or two definite steps against Pakistan. It could have withdrawn the Most Favoured nation status from Pakistan at the least, it didn't even do that. It only depended, and continues to depend, on other nations, hoping they would fight for and on behalf of India. It never happens. For UK, USA, France, Germany, Japan, Australia, Russia and so on, their geo-political and economic interests are sacrosanct. They will not help India; they would first promote their own interests.
It is for New Delhi to act and act fast. Pakistan is weak. It has been gripped by ethnic strife and people of Balochistan and Sindu are up in revolt against Pakistani Punjab. It's time to strike. Similarly, it's time for New Delhi to withdraw security cover from all Kashmiri separatists and say no its kid glove policy. Time is running out and running out very fast. Any further failure on the part of New Delhi to take action against the Kashmir-based Pakistani agents would prove fatal for the paramount national interests in the state. It's also time to appreciate the nationalist Jammu and Ladakh so that they are fully empowered to strengthen the nationalist constituency in the state. |
